First placings for Rockhampton lapidary club

MEMBERS of the Rockhampton Lapidary Club (Gems and Jewellery) provided entries to the Bundaberg Region Show lapidary section and were very successful with our juniors gaining six first placings, three seconds and a third.

Alanah Ashcroft was Bundaberg Regional Show Junior Champion. A display of the junior entries will be on display at the Rockhampton Show in the James Lawrence pavilion.

These results bode well for the upcoming inaugural Rockhampton Gem Expo to be held at the showgrounds on August 19-20.

Rockhampton will also host GEMBOREE 2019, Australia's 55th Annual Gem and Mineral Show, also to be conducted at the showgrounds. It has only previously been held once before in Rockhampton in 2002. The GEMBOREEis conducted in a different state and city each year and attracts gem, jewellery, fossil and mineral enthusiasts and traders from around Australia and overseas.

The Rockhampton Lapidary Club is open on Monday and Tuesday nights, Wednesday afternoon, Saturday morning for juniors (aged 9-16 years) and Saturday afternoon in the Walter Reid Cultural Centre on the corner of East and Derby streets.
