
Fish-hooked rare Hawksbill turtle is released
Roxy, a rare Hawksbill turtle, has been was released back into the water on Wednesday by volunteers at the Quoin Island Turtle Rehabilitation centre.
Roxy was accidentally hooked by a local fisherman back in July and brought into the centre. After being at the centre since July, Since then Roxy has almost doubled in size and has also grown an extra two inches (in diameter).
Marine biologist Camille Remond has been working on Quoin for the past year. She says Roxy is a special case quite particular because the turtle came all the way from Vanuatu.
They know that because it was tagged as a baby turtle.
"She's really healthy now and that's why we've decided to release her. It's very exciting seeing her go and hopefully one day I'll see her again."
