Fishermen suing ports corp have case mentioned in court

A GROUP of commercial fishermen and business owners who are suing the Gladstone Ports Corporation for more than $20 million in business losses have had their matter mentioned in a Brisbane court.

The group is seeking compensation for business losses associated with losing fishing grounds due to dredging works and a fish disease outbreak in Gladstone Harbour.

They are claiming the $70 billion port development earmarked to help transport huge shipments of liquefied natural gas and coal seam gas contributed to the disease outbreak.

The matter was mentioned briefly on Thursday in the Planning and Environment Court.

The case will return to the same court again on January 20 for a hearing.
