Troublesome CBD intersection to get makeover next year
THE troublesome intersection of Fitzroy and Bolsover St will get a makeover next financial year to reduce the number of accidents.
The State Government has committed nearly $1.5 million dollars to fix black spots on major roads in Rockhampton, with that intersection one of 10 to be included.
Upgrades include new road signage and improved light signalling arrangements, which includes extra turn arrows and more visible LED lights.
"There are at least 10 projects scheduled for the next financial year and I will fight to ensure local road safety issues in Rockhampton remain a priority for the LNP government," she said.
One of the key works will be upgrading the intersection at Bolsover and Fitzroy St, which will see turn arrows put in at all four entries.
A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesperson said the majority of crashes at the intersection involved vehicles turning into oncoming traffic when the dedicated green arrow finished.
"The Neville Hewitt Bridge will also have a "Vehicles Queuing" sign installed to alert southbound drivers of congestion on the bridge aimed at reducing the number of nose-to-tail accidents."
