Five people rescued from Water Park Creek rising waters

FIVE people were rescued from Byfield this morning after heavy rain caused Water Park Creek to rise.

Three adults and two children were camping at the creek when flash flooding caused them to become isolated.

SES crews were called out at 10am after a six-month-old baby developed a temperature.

Rockhampton Region SES local controller Eddie Cowie said rescue boats from Yeppoon and Rockhampton attended.

An ambulance transported the baby to Yeppoon Hospital as a precautionary measure.

Mr Cowie said there haven't been many rescues due to the weather, but SES workers had been busy clearing trees and placing tarps on damaged roofs.

He said they had been to about 40 jobs since Sunday.
