Flames leave path to champs
THE Flames are hot and heading to Brisbane this weekend.
Frenchville State School senior A netball team, known as the Flames, head south to compete in the 2010 Mission Firebirds Primary School Cup.
Coach Samantha Briggs expects the Flames to do well in the prestigious tournament that attracts about 80 teams from around Queensland.
The Flames go into the event well performed having won the primary school competition for state and private schools and also the Central Queensland regional shield.
Also, four of the Flames are current Capricornia players.
Teams don’t gain success without working for it and Briggs said she has had the side training three days a week for the past six weeks and that was in addition to their on-court work in the regular netball season.
Also, to travel to events, such as the one at Brisbane’s Pine Rivers this weekend, they require good sponsors and Briggs said they have gained support from Mark Lupton Orthodontist, Curves Gymnasium and Robert Schwarten.
The Flames’ squad consists of Kate Hearnden, Molly Shelton, Kiara Ferguson, Taylor Gregory, Marissa Buchanan, Shannon Spreadborough, Kaitlyn Black, Bailee Murray, Lucy Loram and Kayla Peters.
