Flash blacks out 3000 coast sites

MORE than 3000 Capricorn Coast residents were without power yesterday after storm damage caused a flashover on equipment at the Yeppoon substation.

An Ergon Energy spokesman said the flashover on lightning arrestors triggered protection equipment to cut supply to 3100 customers in the Byfield, Cawarral, Emu Park, Keppel Sands, Tanby, Yeppoon and Zilzie areas at 9.30am.

Ergon was able to switch around the damaged equipment and restore supply to all but 460 users by 9.48am.

Power was fully restored by 10.12am.
