Flash heralds fire and water

IT was both a blessing and a curse that the heavens opened with an electrical storm yesterday afternoon as a large grassfire approached three properties on Black Gin Creek Road, Alton Downs.

The fire started about 1.30pm from a lightning strike.

The Rural Fire Brigade crew called for an urban truck as a priority to protect a

structure on one of the properties.

The Fire and Rescue Service also considered putting a water bombing aircraft into the air to help.

But then the rain began to fall, and it had put the blaze out by about 3pm.

No properties were damaged in the fire.
