Fluoride on tap for real this time

ROCKHAMPTON Regional Council started pumping fluoride into the city’s water supply yesterday afternoon.

The council had until the end of December to introduce it to the water supply at Rockhampton, Gracemere and The Caves to meet Queensland Government requirements.

A missing part meant it had to delay last Friday’s expected start-up date.

The introduction of fluoride has angered some in the community with opponents promising to hold a second rally next year, following the “solemn protest” they held last week.

The Mt Morgan and Woodbury water treatment plants will have fluoride added before the end of 2010.

The State Government has allocated $1,343,000 to Rockhampton Regional Council to help its fluoridation program.
