Flushed away in flood

LAND owners along Tinana Creek who acquired any new "outbuildings" during this week's flash floods can thank the call of nature.

The Gympie Regional Council had yesterday given up hope of ever finding a portable loo that went missing from Wilsons Pocket Rd on Sunday evening when mother nature unleashed her fury.

The toilet was part of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of council machinery and assets that "took a good swim" when council workers were caught short by the timing of the devastating deluge.

It had been parked on the side of a bitumen road at a Wilsons Pocket Rd bridge, which was under council reconstruction, alongside an excavator tipped over by the water and a shipping container that served as a site office.

The container held smaller equipment being used to work on the bridge, such as generators and cement mixers, and was found several hundred metres downstream after the water receded.

Also damaged was a high-capacity specialist mower nicknamed "the ferrari" and a roller hired by the council and parked at the One Mile Ovals, which went under water before Kidd Bridge did (see more on this page 36).

The council is now in discussions with its insurers and the hire company.

A council spokesman said the losses would not further impact council operations.

But he said people along Tinana Ck should be suspicious if a "very clean" toilet suddenly turns up on their property.

"As far as we can ascertain, nobody was sitting on the toilet at the time," he said.
