Former Rocky woman was 100 metres from Istanbul explosion

A FORMER Rockhampton woman who was within 100 metres of a suicide bomber who killed 10 people in Istanbul yesterday has assured family and friends she is safe.

Selena Gillian, who now lives in Canberra, is currently in Turkey and was having breakfast at her hotel when she described a large explosion around 100 to 200 metres away from her.

The explosion was carried out near the famous Blue Mosque, in the Sultanahmet district, where Selena's hotel was.
It is believed Islamic State is responsible for the attack, which has also injured 15 people.

Selena said there was a huge response from emergency services, with multiple ambulances as well as helicopters in the area.

She remained at her hotel after the attack.
