Frenchville lifts trophy at annual six-a-side carnival
FOOTBALL: Frenchville has picked up in 2017 where it left off in 2016, winning a grand final.
The reigning Premier League champions enjoyed an unbeaten run to lift the trophy at the Frenchville Sports Club Annual Six-A-Side Carnival in Rockhampton at the weekend.
Frenchville won its four round games and easily accounted for Misfits in the semi-final to set up a showdown with Southside in the decider.
In an entertaining match, Frenchville ran out 4-2 winners after the teams were locked at 2-all at the half-time break.
Lindsay Dean, who was the team's coach for the weekend, said it was good to get the victory at a carnival which provided a good fitness test for the players.
"The effort and the commitment from the players was very good and it was great to see them grind out results in the preliminary rounds,” he said.
"We certainly saved our best game for the final and all the players stepped up.
"It was a good all-round team performance which is what we were looking for.”
Frenchville captain Tim Barker was rewarded for his consistent performance over the two and a half days of competition, named the player of the carnival.
The two grand final combatants will face off again this weekend in the first of the local qualifying matches for the FFA Cup, football's national knockout competition.
