Basketball: Frenchville Stingers make it five from five

JARED Blanchard dunks, Brad Williamson three pointers and Craig Bosel returning to vintage form were all features of the Division 1 Men's Basketball competition during round 5 of the 2015/16 Summer Season.

Frenchville Stingers had their fifth consecutive win, after they accounted for the undermanned Frenchville White team 56-44.

Blanchard led the way, finishing with 29 points and this included four thunderous dunks.

Although Frenchville White are yet to secure a win during their campaign, the imminent return of Rockets captain Mitch Philp should see them come into contention for the remainder of the season.

A promising sign was a solid performance from Ben Greany who crashed the offensive boards with reckless abandon and finished with 14 points.

Toledo also continued their recent form, defeating Ripperteam 79-71.

Craig Bosel has added another dimension for the Ripper Bears, dominating inside.

Unfortunately, Bosel's round high 35 points were not enough to get the Bears across the line.

Brad Williamson (pictured) once again got hot from the perimeter, finishing with 30 points and 24 of those came from behind the arc.

In the Division 1 Women's games, the Toledo All-stars beat Ripperteam in a close contest, 55-47.

Ripperteam secured an early lead on the back of some tough play from Brianna Bailey who scored a round high 23 points.

But a solid third quarter saw Toledo turn a two point deficit into a two point lead, restricting Ripper to just eight points for the term.

Their strong defence continued into the fourth quarter and they were able to extend their lead to eight.

Sarah Anderson had her best game of the season, leading Toledo with 18 points.

In the other game, the U18 rep team proved their dominance against their younger counterparts, putting on a 61-14 basketball clinic against the U16 Rep team.

The U16 rep girls have been impressive in their Division 1 debut this season, but struggled with the U18 side's intensity.

The win propels the U18 rep team into second spot on the ladder.
