Frenchville's juniors cheering over 'undefeated' season

JOHN Crawford is the happiest coach in the world.

Frenchville junior rugby union players had something to cheer about over the weekend as they finished their season undefeated with victories in both the under-14 and 16 grand finals.

Under-14 Frenchville coach Crawford said he was more than pleased with his squad's performance in their encounter with Central Highlands.

"It was a very good weekend and we both finished the year undefeated," Crawford said.

"I was very happy with the under-14s as all six of our tries were scored by different players.

"In the first half, our forwards' defence was fantastic and then in the second half our backline was just too big and strong.

"It was a great all-round team performance and a real team effort. I couldn't single out an individual standout."

After the under-14s secured top honours, Frenchville fronted up again in the 16s contest against Colts.

Crawford said while the first half of the clash was tight with the scores tied at half-time, Frenchville proved too strong.

"In the second half, Frenchville came back and ran over the top of them," the coach said.

"Overall it has been a very successful year for Frenchville and the junior rugby union competition."

While the local competition is now over, many players were set to line up for the Junior Gold Rugby Union training camp at Rockhampton Grammar School this weekend.

Meanwhile, down the road at Rugby Park, Central Highlands, Mackay and Rockhampton teams will hit the field for the Rockhampton Rep Day contest.
