AFTER 13 games last season Leicester City was bottom of the English Premier League.

This time around, at the same stage, Claudio Ranieri's men are top of the league after a 3-0 win away to struggling Newcastle.

Jamie Vardy was again the hero, equalling Ruud van Nistelrooy's EPL record by scoring in a 10th straight game.

Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki scored the other goals.

The Foxes are top by one point after both Manchester City, which was thrashed 4-1 at Liverpool, and Arsenal, which surprisingly lost 2-1 with Santi Cazorla missing a penalty at West Brom, stumbled.

"I'm very proud. The players played compact and like a team," Ranieri said. "It's difficult after the international break because you don't know what will happen.

"It was a fantastic performance.

"We're top for the moment. But I want to see us there at the end of the race."

Manchester United took advantage of City and Arsenal's slip-ups with victory at Watford to move to second. The Red Devils were pegged back after Memphis Depay's goal by Troy Deeney's penalty.

Just a couple of minutes later the Watford skipper turned a Bastian Schweinsteiger cross into his own net to give United a 2-1 win.

Everton handed a 4-0 thumping to bottom club Aston Villa, while Chelsea got back to winning ways with a 1-0 home success to Norwich.

Bournemouth missed a chance to take a first win in six games after surrendering a two-goal lead at Swansea to draw 2-2.

Stoke won at Southampton 1-0.
