Fuchsia fights for finals berth after win against Bluebirds

BROTHERS Fuchsia coach Tracy Upton is confident her team has the form to go all the way in its championship assault after sealing 32-28 win over Bluebirds Eagles last week.

Fuchsia secured two wins from three in the opening rounds of the Rockhampton Leagues Club Senior A competition, perfectly positioning the youngsters for their clash with development rivals Bluebird Hawks.

Brothers have maintained a consistent line-up through the first three rounds, with veteran shooter Brittany McHugh swapping to goal defence, while the centre court has remained largely unchanged throughout their campaign.

Fuchsia's most notable figureheads are towering defender Rebecca Hall and shooters Kiara Ferguson and Lorri Upton.

"Bec and Britt will have their work cut out for them in defence this week, trying to keep Bluebirds shooter Renee Spence out of the circle," Tracy said.

"Kiara and Loz have been working really well together in attack so I expect their form to continue."

Fuchsia will start the game as favourites after Bluebirds went down 57-37 to a strong RGS Magic outfit last week.

But Tracy said the wealth of talent in both sides meant it would come down to who was more focused on the game.

"Brothers should get on top but Bluebirds are always a very strong outfit," she said.

"Fuchsia lost their second round to Brothers Crimson so they have been working hard on their shooting and feeding into the circle ahead of this week's game."

Tracy said Fuchsia's beefed-up training and relatively clean bill of health meant they could continue to improve throughout the season.

"They are a predominately young team with a few old heads in Linda McIntyre and Britt McHugh," she said.

"It will be interesting to see how they go when they come up against the top teams."

Fuchsia will take on Bluebirds Hawks at CQUniversity tonight.
