Karmichael Hunt finally back in Broncos colours

Former Broncos premiership winner Karmichael Hunt is back in Brisbane colours for the first time in 4,238 days after taking part in his first training session with the club ahead of a potential NRL comeback in Round 11.

The 34-year-old has signed with the Broncos on a train and trial contract to help with a halves crisis and will be eligible to play in the Broncos' Round 11 fixture against the Roosters.

Ironically that is at the Sydney Cricket Ground, which is the same ground he was playing at for the NSW Waratahs in rugby union last season.

Hunt is quite the Australian sporting journeymen after he shocked the rugby league world to sign with the Gold Coast Suns in the AFL back in 2009.

The brilliant fullback scored 53 tries in 125 games for the Broncos from his debut in 2004 until Brisbane's preliminary final loss to the Storm in 2009 and won a premiership with the club in 2006.

Hunt also played 10 Origins for Queensland and scored four tries in 11 Tests for the Kangaroos.

Before defecting to the AFL, Hunt had a short stint with Biarritz Olympique in rugby union and returned to the sport after his career with the Suns ended in 2014.

As a midfielder in the AFL Hunt scored six goals in 44 games for the Suns from 2011 to 2014.

Hunt scored four tries in 56 games for the Reds and Waratahs in rugby union and also played seven Tests for the Wallabies.

After 12 years away from the sport, Hunt returned to rugby league, signing with the Souths Logan Magpies in the Queensland Cup for the 2021 season.

Hunt publicly expressed his desire to return to play for the Broncos or another NRL club, and Brisbane coach Kevin Walters eventually signed him on a train and trial contract.

The veteran has set his sights on the Broncos' No.6 jersey and will battle Anthony Milford, Brodie Croft, Tom Dearden and Tyson Gamble for a spot in the Broncos halves in the coming weeks.

Hunt has his sights set on a career in coaching in the future and will have plenty of opportunity to get a headstart in working with the younger members of the Broncos' squad and imparting the knowledge he has gained from a remarkable sporting career.
