Furious dad fined $1200 for smashing side mirror on car

A PROTECTIVE father was fined $1200 in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court earlier this month after he damaged the car of a woman who was trying to help his daughter.

Shane David Kenneth Pearsall pleaded guilty on July 4 to wilful damage and failing to provide his identifying particulars.

Police prosecutor Constable Manon Barwick told the court the woman was forced to slam on the brakes when she spotted a young child in the middle of a road in Gracemere on May 31.

She said the woman got out of the car to assist the child.

Pearsall came out of a nearby home and grabbed the girl.

Const Barwick said the man hurled abuse at the woman and as she was backing away he grabbed one of the car's side mirrors and smashed it.

The incident happened about 2pm.

Const Barwick said the defendant apologised for his actions.

Pearsall was ordered to pay $398.45 in restitution.
