G20 organisers know of 21 planned protests

AT LEAST 21 groups are expected to protest in Brisbane in the lead-up to the G20 summit next month.

Assistant Commissioner Katarina Carroll said the groups had been in touch with police about protesting in the week before the event.

At a community forum in Brisbane City Hall on Wednesday, Ms Carroll acknowledged the groups' efforts to work with police.

She said the groups and police faced the challenge of ensuring people participating in the protests did not become violent.

About 1500 interstate and New Zealand police, and officers from other jurisdictions, will join Queensland Police for the G20."It's like bringing a police force together of 6000 for one week," Ms Carroll said.

She said she was expecting more protest groups to get in touch with police in coming weeks.
