GALLERY: Rockhampton stops and remembers soldiers sacrifice

MORE than 50 people turned out today to the John Leak Memorial to pay their respects to the fallen.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day, heads were bowed in the minute silence to remember the Australian soldiers who'd fought for their country.

Private John Leak's grandson, Peter Townsend, attended the memorial to pay tribute to his grandfather, the first Queenslander to be awarded the Victoria Cross in 1916.
