Gap in market sees developer open child care centre

IT WAS an easy decision for Scott Morrison to build his next project when he discovered there was a huge demand for child care in the region.

Scott, who is the owner of Morrison Property Group, is looking to help with the demand by building a child care centre on the corner of Frenchville and Norman Rds.

Natural Wonders Early Learning is nearing completion and has already had more than 100 inquiries.

"The number of child care placements compared to the number of kids in Rockhampton is huge," Scott said.

"Most of the centres in Rockhampton are full and people really struggle to get their kids in anywhere.

"We're filling a need, especially being close to the Frenchville State School, there's a good flow-on effect and we're on the same road, just 300m away."

Scott, who has been working in Rockhampton for seven years, said it was a passion of his to be able to find a location and see a vision of what could potentially be developed.

"I really like going from finding a property and developing the whole vision, working with all the consultants and coming up with the whole design and being hands-on," he said.

"It's all about finding the right product for the right property."

For Scott, Natural Wonders Early Learning is definitely the right project.

"There are a lot of established centres around, but Rocky has really grown in the past seven years so I'm confident there's more than enough room for another centre," Scott said.

"We've taken 130 inquiries just off our billboard and website."

The centre will hold an open day towards the end of November.
