Gatecrasher smashes glass on cop's head

A POLICE senior constable was smashed over the head with a bottle while he was trying to evict 60 gatecrashers from a New Year's Eve party in Rockhampton.

Around 10pm the constable had gone to a private party on Brae-Ross Street and was helping to remove unwanted party goers with the assistance of another man.

A male struck the officer in the head with a glass bottle, causing a deep laceration.

The officer was also punched in the head several times.

The second man was attacked by three males and punched several times in the head causing bruising and lacerations.

The officer was taken to Rockhampton Hospital where he received nine sutures for his injury.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them or to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
