Gearing up for motorsport carnival

THE region's petrol heads will be set into overdrive come July next year.

MotorMania chairman Ian Loxton said eight months out from the event and they are well on their way to hitting top gear for the inaugural event.

The 10-day carnival of motorsport will be held over July 16-25.

Loxton said a lot of the events have been finalised and a proposed schedule drawn up.

“We are just waiting on some of the clubs governing bodies to confirm events,” he said.

The support has already come in with Rockhampton Regional Council financially supporting the event as well as several major sponsors throwing support “in kind”.

Loxton said that the Gladstone Regional Council (GRC) was also approached.

The chairman said while it was not within the GRC's budget to support them when approached, they will go back in 2010 and apply for funding.

Loxton said the GRC were supportive of the event.

“Regardless of funding (from GRC) this is a Central Queensland event and we are committed to supporting it as such, this includes Gladstone, Rockhampton and the Capricorn Coast.”

Already there are 10-events planned for the Gladstone region in the proposed plan.

Loxton said that the launch events and the legends of motorsport dinner are still at planning stages.

“We are extremely happy with where we are at now,” he said.
