Germany loses F1 race for 2017

MOTORSPORT: Germany may have the current Formula One champion in Nico Rosberg, but it won't have a start on the 2017 F1 calendar.

The season starts in Australia on March 26 and ends in Abu Dhabi on November 26 with another 18 races in between.

As part of Germany's biennial swap deal, the Nurburgring was due to stage a round but ultimately unwilling to pay hosting fees.

Hockenheim, which drew a meagre 57,000 fans this year, was reportedly reluctant to lose money in successive seasons. It does have a contract for 2018.

Races in Austria and Britain have been moved back a week to help fill the gap left by Germany, with those grands prix now taking place on July 9 and 16, respectively.

The renamed Azerbaijan Grand Prix has being pushed back to June 25 to avoid a clash with the Le Mans 24 Hours sports car classic.

The schedule was released by the International Automobile Federation and included two meetings in doubt, Brazil and Canada.
