Get into spirit for Australia Day
AUSTRALIANS all let us rejoice and celebrate Australia Day at the Victoria Park Playground Picnic in the Park.
From 8am-noon tomorrow, Rockhampton councillor Cherie Rutherford is likely to be joined by hundreds of other Rockhampton residents putting their national pride on display at the family event in Huish Drive.
“Australia Day is one thing we all love to celebrate and the spirit shown by the community is something we should share with others,” Cr Rutherford said.
“People really want to make the day a social occasion and share their pride.”
A free sausage sizzle, sack races, cricket matches and other games will be organised and the South Rockhampton swimming pool will be open to the public, with free entry until noon.
Cr Rutherford encouraged local residents to become involved in the various free events being held around the region tomorrow.
In Mount Morgan, Australia Day Awards and a Citizenship Ceremony will be held at the School of Arts building, and in Gracemere Conaghan Park will host entertainment, market stalls, rides and refreshments.
The Great Australia Day Beach Party will also be the place to be on the Capricorn coast.
Victoria Park Playground will host a Picnic in the Park, with a free sausage sizzle and games from 8am.
The South Rockhampton pool will be open from 9am until noon with free entry.
