Seminar helps CQ get ready for cyclone season

CYCLONE Marcia left the community devastated after it tore through the Capricorn Coast and Central Queensland.

The region was caught off guard when Marcia hit and to ensure everyone will be prepared for future natural disasters a cyclone preparedness seminar was held yesterday in Rockhampton.

Assistant Commissioner for Emergency Management Stephen Grant said the seminars were being run across Queensland with agencies working together to make the wet season a safer time for the state.

"Marcia caused considerable pain for the communities of Rockhampton, Yeppoon and Biloela," he said.

"We need to learn from those activities in terms of developing strategies to better prepare for the coming season."
