Get rid of the payroll tax: Palmer

MINING billionaire Clive Palmer has offered his Queensland leader another dose of political advice - get rid of the state's payroll tax.

The mining magnate said abolishing the payroll tax would stimulate the economy and create thousands of jobs.

"It would demonstrate to the community that Queensland is open for business, providing a huge incentive for medium and large businesses to be relocated here and drive our economy forward," the staunch LNP Party supporter said.

Mr Palmer's long-standing membership with the LNP has come into question due to his continuing critique of the Newman Government's policies.

Premier Campbell Newman said on Wednesday the payroll tax raised $3.7 billion a year and abolishing the tax was clearly not possible.

The Government outlined in last week's budget it would increase the threshold rate for the payroll tax by $100,000 a year for the next six years.
