BUSINESS was just heating up at the Giddy Goat on Saturday night when suddenly the nightclub was forced to evacuate.

In a blow for the local business, a power outage in the CBD forced them to close.

Rumours spread that a car had hit a power pole, but the cause of the power outage was actually a fault in a ring main unit in East Lane which failed around 10.20pm.

Ergon Energy corporate communications manager Bob Pleash said 86 customers were affected by the fault in the unit, which supplies power to the lower part of East St between Derby and William Sts.

Giddy Goat owner Karl Schamburg said they lost a lot of business as a result of the outage.
