Gidely gears up for his 200th game played for Newcastle

KNIGHTS captain Kurt Gidley will become just the seventh player to notch up 200 games for the club when Newcastle takes on the Raiders at Canberra Stadium on Sunday.

"It is a special game and I am excited, and I didn't know it was going to be this week either," Gidley said.

"I am proud and I think my family would be proud ... but I've just got to get on with the job and make sure I do my role within the team."

Gidley, who has played at halfback and hooker this year, was named to play at five-eighth against Canberra, to cover for Jarrod Mullen who has a knee injury.

Knights hooker Danny Buderus paid Gidley the ultimate tribute, saying he was one of the most competitive players he had taken the field alongside.

The Knights are still smarting from last Sunday's 21-20 loss in golden point to the 11th placed Sharks, after two straight wins.

"Wayne (Bennett) was pretty dirty as we all were but we have been training really well this week and we will be ready to go on Sunday," prop Kade Snowden said.

Raiders second-rower Jake Foster said the last 20 minutes in his team's win over the Storm last Saturday night was spot on, and it would need to continue against a strong Newcastle pack.
