DELTA Goodrem has found a new soul sister in Jessie J.

The two women bring a greater gender balance to the new coaching panel of Nine's Logie-winning reality singing show The Voice.

Goodrem returns after taking a year off to work on The Voice Kids, while it's Jessie J's Australian TV debut.

The British singer is no stranger to the red chair though, having worked as a coach on the first two seasons of The Voice UK.

"She's on fire around the world right now. It's an amazing thing for us to have her on the show," Goodrem tells APN.

"I get to have all my really girly moments with her. Backstage we're like 'Is this okay? Does this work?'"

Latin pop star Ricky Martin and Joel Madden return, with Joel's twin brother Benji joining him in the special chair created for them on The Voice Kids last year.

"We're a very spirited panel," Goodrem says.

"We've all got a lot of passion and we all come from different places in our approaches, which make it fun.

"We've all come from a place of doing this show for a while now, so we're all just letting fly. We have fun; we banter and go for it. We go hard (for singers), we get passionate, then laugh and cry. We go through a whole gamut of emotions and then we have a glass of wine together."

The show is known for the "blind" format of its audition round, when the coaches each pick

12 singers to compete in the battle rounds, from which only eight singers per team will advance.

"It's a very versatile group of talent," Goodrem says.

"Joel and I were saying the other day, we just can't put our finger on it. The show is just different this year."

The coaches also have a new "fast pass" option to advance their two strongest singers straight through to the live shows.

"The fast pass is good for numerous reasons, like when you really believe in someone and want to show them they've got what it takes," she says.

The show will then feature a new publicly voted super battles round where the singers who survived the battles but did not receive a fast pass will get one more chance to advance to the live shows in three-way sing-offs.

The overall winner will receive a recording contract with Universal Music Australia, $100,000 and a new car.

For the first time in the show's four seasons, not every coach will be guaranteed a singer in the grand final.

"I love my group; I have a pretty incredible team," Goodrem says.

"I will keep fighting for them until I have nothing left to give. But I also expect a lot from my team. There's no sugar coating anything. I tell them 'there's a lot for you to be able to take from this. Use it as a platform'."

Sonia Kruger joins Darren McMullen as the new Voice co-host.

The Voice Australia returns tonight at 7pm and also airs Monday and Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel 9/WIN.
