Ready for Miss Showgirl crowning

EIGHT Rocky girls will get the chance to be crowned Miss Rocky Showgirl at the Rockhampton Show Ball this weekend.

Last year's winner and committee member Peta Hughes said the girls had been working since October last year, holding fundraisers for Variety, the children's charity, and getting ready for the ball.

This year's ball has a Hollywood theme, focussed on an Academy Awards after party.

“We'll be treating everyone like a VIP. They come into a VIP room when they arrive and where they'll be treated like a star,” Ms Hughes said.

Ms Hughes said the judges had a difficult task ahead of them.

“It's all very close. They (the judges) will struggle to pick a winner,” she said.

As well as casino tables where people can gamble “funny money” away, the ball includes entertainment from Brisbane musician Dave Dow.

Ms Hughes said while the showgirls hosted the start of the evening and greeted arrivals, it was their night to enjoy the show too.

The girl crowned Miss Rocky Showgirl competes at the Central Queensland competition.

The ticket price of $110 includes beer, champagne and hors d'oeuvres as well as a two-course meal and funny money.
