Golfers hit fairways in hunt for finals win

GOLF: A record field of golfers will be shooting for success in the annual final of the Vanderfield Central Queensland four-ball stableford championships this weekend.

Forty-two ladies and 44 men, representing all golf clubs in Central Queensland, will tee off in a shotgun start from 8.30am at the Capricorn Resort on Sunday.

The leading men's pairs are Capricorn Country Club's John Berry and Rodney Donnellon and Yeppoon's Neville and Dean Brooks who both scored 50 stableford points in their qualifying rounds.

Gracemere's Dennise Busteed and Jo-Anne Peterson will go into the women's final as outright favourites after scoring 49 points in their qualifying win.

Rockhampton's Nola Taylor and Geraldine Brewster will be hot on their heels after scoring 48, with Capricorn Country Club's Lorraine Schlogel and Jan Russell one point back.

The popular Vanderfield teams event will be played in conjunction with the championships, with two men's pairs and one ladies pair making up a team.
