Good vibes as Rocky rocks!
CALL him a dreamer, but Greg McLean is certainly onto something.
Pouring half a million dollars into what will be the biggest full-scale outdoor music festival Rockhampton has seen, the Kelkatagory Entertainment owner and manager sees today's Electronic Vibes musical festival as an investment in Rocky and its music scene.
“What people don't realise is how big this actually is,” Greg said.
“It's a home-grown festival created right here, with state-of-the-art lighting, stage and sound production.”
A crowd of up to 5000 people is tipped for the Rockhampton Music Bowl today, for a full day of acts catering for many musical tastes – from pop-rock sensation Evermore to massive international and Aussie electro artists like Zoë Badwi, TV Rock, Bag Raiders, Bombs Away and many more.
Only 20 years old, Greg, from the Gold Coast, moved to CQ 18 months ago, and created his Kelkatagory Entertainment business specifically for the music festival four months ago.
The ambitious entrepreneur said he saw the need for something like this for the youth of Rockhampton.
“The culture's been here with things like the Oxford Street Party and we just want to build on that music culture, because people from here usually have to travel to see these sorts of things in the big cities.”
As for the artists, well, they're just as excited as the punters, humorously calling the festival the ‘Australian Dance Music Convention' for themselves.
Holly Gazal, promotions and marketing manager for The Arcade Creative, which is involved in promoting the festival, said: “All 50 of the artists are flying in today and most of them have never been here before, so they're seeing it as a chance to all get together and have one massive party.”
“Plus, they're super-excited to come to a regional town like Rockhampton.
“Ticket sales are doing great with more expected to be purchased on the day.”
