RETURNING after six years out of the driver's seat, Rod Gough knew it was going to be tough.

But not this tough.

The veteran speedway driver returned to the track on Saturday night as the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club held its second meeting of the 2013-14 season.

The night featured round four of the QA Development Super Sedan Series as well as round three of the Queensland Drivers Championships for Formula 500, Super Stockers, Fender Benders, V8 AMCA Nationals and ASCF Junior Sedans.

After a eighth placing in the opening heat, Gough made his way through the field to qualify for the final, before engine problems hampered his final race.

This paved the way for Mick Doblo to claim top honours in the Super Sedans.

"We'll get there eventually," Gough said.

"They were super fast. Mick Doblo was fast, Steve Jordan, Darren Kane from Brisbane - they're all quick.

"I was expecting what I got - I knew it would be different."

Doblo won round two of the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club series Super Sedans race, finishing ahead of pre-race favourites Darren Kane and Steve Jordan.

Andrew Platen claimed his first career heat win in the Super Stockers before following it up with a win in the final.

In his first race since a rollover midway through last season, the Rockhampton driver finished the final 0.244 seconds ahead of Anthony Ohl, with Jeff Ohl placing third.

Moranbah driver Brenton Atto continued his superb run, winning the Junior Sedans race ahead of Rockhampton driver Daniel Johnson, and Kingaroy's Hayden Jones.

The fender benders missed out on a final due to time constraints, while Gladstone driver Tony Curd claimed top honours in the AMCA series.

Curd finished ahead of a fast finishing Glenn Boulter as Mark Horstman claimed third place.

Gough, and his good mate Bill Rowe have been working tirelessly to get the car up to speed to compete in the super sedans.

But there's still a way to go, says Gough.
