Gracemere takes out U12 title
CRICKET: Accurate bowling and sharp fielding helped guide Gracemere to a 63-run victory over Brothers in the Rockhampton under-12 cricket grand final.
Gracemere won the toss and elected to bat. They made a solid start before putting the foot down in the last 15 overs to finish with 7-126 from their 30 overs.
Boyd Page and Dwight Patryarchp led the way, both retired on 23, while Luke Daly chipped in with a handy 14.
Brothers' bowler Michael McGubbin finished with the impressive figures of 2-4, while Jackson Dingle and Brodie Bauer both got one wicket each.
Gracemere came out firing in the field and dismissed Brothers for 63 runs in the 25th over. McGubbin provided the greatest resistance, top-scoring with 11.
Bowler Ben Van Bael wrapped up the innings by taking two wickets on two consecutive balls.
Victorious coach Tony Newman said it was a good game played in good spirit.
"We batted well. We were 2-44 off our first 15 overs and then we doubled our run rate in the second half of the innings, putting on 82 runs to finish with 126,” he said.
"The boys then bowled and fielded exceptionally well. We took all of our catches and got some run outs.
"With the ball, we didn't give away any easy runs and there were very few wides or no balls.”
