Gracemere wary of Frenchville

IT'S all on at Kalka Shades this afternoon as an unbeaten Gracemere faces champion side Frenchville in the A-grade final of the Frenchville Sports Club Twenty20 competition.

Gracemere came out on top when the two sides met earlier in the competition.

"We won't read much into that last game," Gracemere captain Aaron Harmsworth said.

"I expect them to be a lot closer to full-strength this time."

Harmsworth is a fan of Twenty20 cricket and hopes organisers of the Rockhampton competition look closely at increasing the number of matches played during a season.

However, he is also aware that it is a competition where luck can play a major role.

"You don't know what to expect," he said, "a few nicks and the game changes."

He said for a team to be successful one of the batsmen has to stay focused for eight to 10 overs, collecting runs while the batsman at the other end can take on the bowling attack.

Gracemere goes into the final with close to a full-strength line up.

Omissions are Curtis and Travis Duff who are unavailable.

Curtis was a main destroyer when Gracemere met Frenchville last time and the team will miss the variation he gives with his left-arm spin bowling.

One player returning to the side is Mark O'Keeffe and Harmsworth, in particular, is glad he's back.

Last week Harmsworth reluctantly kept wicket in O'Keeffe's absence as a stop-gap measure.

"Mark is the best gloveman in Rockhampton." he said, "He adds an element to our game as he is an aggressive wicketkeeper, not afraid to come up to the stumps."

The A-grade final is at Kalka Shades starting at 2pm.

In the Second Division, Capricorn Coast heads the table with 13 points and is likely to meet Frenchville in the final.

The Corporate section sees Hospital through to the final to meet the winner of the Stanwell v Back on Track Eagles game which is played tomorrow morning. Both finals of the Second and Corporate divisions are at Rockhampton Cricket Ground starting 2pm.
