Low act - vandals deface memorial

RON King says it was nothing short of a low act of disrespect.

When the RSL Capricornia Rockhampton Sub-branch president found out that the Frenchville Sports Club’s war memorial had been defaced with profanities, he said he had “hit the roof”.

“There’s no respect,” an angry Mr King said yesterday.

The graffiti, which is believed to have happened some time on Tuesday, was cleaned from the memorial early yesterday.

“One of my members went for dinner on Tuesday night and saw it. He called to tell me the sad news,” Mr King said.

He said it was just another “low act” to add to the list.

“It’s beyond a joke,” Mr King said.

“In the past six months, there have been flags pulled down and RSL memorials defaced all over Queensland.”

To stop it happening again, Mr King said the sub-branch would look into installing a security fence around the memorial.

He said, no matter the extent of graffiti attacks, what it came down to was disrespect for our war veterans.

“It’s a place where families and friends can come to pay their respects to those killed at war,” Mr King said.

If you suspect someone is defacing the city with graffiti, you can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
