Mr Irwin said he was proud of Bindi and the work she and dance partner Derek Hough had put into the show.

"I felt they should share that limelight because it does take two," he said.

"But I was very proud of her, she was very good."

Mr Irwin said he was also proud of Bindi's continued conservation work.

"I just hope that as time goes by, Bindi continues with her conservation message because she's got a good platform now to work from and it would be nice to think she could continue it for many, many years to come," he said.

"However, that's in the lap of the gods. We just have to wait and see."
