Grant Denyer has 'oh what a feeling' start to life

EVER since he was small...err, young, Grant Denyer has loved driving.

His talent behind the wheel is well documented but the Channel Seven personality had some interesting influences growing up.

What was your first car?

It was a white, 1986 Toyota Twin Cam Corolla. It was a refined, road-hugging pleasure machine. It was superb - it towed my go-kart trailer, which was heavier than the actual car, all around the country.

What are you driving now, and what do you love and hate about it?

I've got a V8 Jeep Cherokee and a 1965 Mustang Fastback.

I love the Jeep as it looks like I work for the secret service! It's a big, all black tank: black wheels, black grill. It's Night Rider in a 4WD. I hate the fuel bill…

I love everything about my Mustang. It's the most timeless, sexiest shaped car ever made. There's nothing I hate about it, even though it's left hand drive and turning right at the lights is a bit tricky.

What cars did your family have while you were growing up?

Being a farming family we had a lot of Toyotas. Everything was Toyota: the work ute, the paddock basher and the town car.

What is your greatest frustration on the road?

People who drive slow in the right hand lane.

Do you have any preferred driving music?

The number one rule is "he who drives controls the stereo". However there's a ban on Celine Dion and I try and avoid anything too heavy as it makes me want to speed.

If you were to pick anyone in the world to go on a road trip, who would it be?

A law enforcement officer with a blue light.

What is your dream car?

The fastest and best road car I've owned was a Ford FPV F6. It's the fastest road car I've driven and incredible value. I think the only improvement on that would be to have one with the stickers and the blue light. That's what the highway patrol use now. I've always wanted to be in a car chase on Smokey and the Bandit.
