Great-grandad hits lotto gold

CHANGING his regular lotto numbers to meaningful dates paid off for a Rockhampton great-grandfather who won $444,444.45 in Saturday’s Gold Lotto draw.

Excitement was in the air yesterday as not only did the man celebrate his win, but Allenstown Plaza’s Nextra Newsagency celebrated their third big winning lotto sale.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he had been playing Gold Lotto for more than two decades, but had only changed his numbers just recently.

“There are a few birthdays in there and an anniversary,” he said.

The winning numbers were 4, 44, 28, 16, 19 and 23. The supplementary numbers were 41 and 33.

The newsagency’s general manager, Dale Barnes, said the Allenstown store was a hot spot for lotto wins.

He said in the past two years he had also sold two $1 million winning tickets.

“It makes us feel good knowing someone local won, especially the ones that plug away every week,” Mr Barnes said yesterday.

Nextra Newsagency had its own celebration yesterday with cake and morning tea.

“We always have our own celebration.”

There were nine division-one winners in Saturday night’s draw.
