Devoted dope grower takes cannabis care to new high

A GREEN thumb who nurtured 15 cannabis plants with daily watering and sunlight was fined $900 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this week.

Craig Abbott pleaded guilty to one count each of producing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils used in smoking a dangerous drug after police searched his Walterhall home on November 12.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox told the court police found 15 cannabis plants in a side room of the house and a bong.

Mr Fox said Abbott told police he planted cannabis seeds in potting mix, in plastic containers, watered them daily and moved them into sunlight "to assist them to grow".

A defence lawyer told the court Abbott recently moved to Queensland and was not able to find cannabis so grew his own from seeds for personal use.

Abbott's potting mix and watering can were forfeited to the Crown.

No convictions were recorded.
