Hart to share AFL wisdom
EACH year a big name comes to Yeppoon to take an Australian Rules coaching clinic and 2010 is no different with Shaun Hart fronting up this morning.
The former Brisbane Lions great will be taking kids through their paces at the Cooee Bay Sports complex at Yeppoon and AFL development manager for Central Queensland Scott Smithwick said about 50 youngsters would be attending the session.
While Hart is best remembered as a star of the Lions premiership squads earlier in the decade and more particularly as the winner of the Norm Smith Medal for the best on ground in the 2001 final, it is his role as a coach that keeps him to the fore in the sport these days.
Hart holds the position of assistant coach at the Gold Coast Suns and with the team set to make its AFL debut in 2011 it is an exciting time for all involved with the club.
While the talk has been around the experienced players the Suns have brought to the club, for Rockhampton the link is former Glenmore player Zac Smith who been a regular ruckman in the Suns' year of football in the Victorian competition.
It is not just the youngsters who will gain from Hart's experience as this afternoon he'll join Smithwick in a number of drills as a part of a session for local coaches.
“It is good to get high profile AFL players and ex-players in the area, giving up their time to assist country footy,” Smithwick said.
