Bluebird Hawks enjoy new direction after injury woes

BLUEBIRD Hawks injury woes have put the powerful Rockhampton district netball side in unfamiliar territory for tonight's clash with RGS Magic.

The Hawks goal-defence Danielle Wingard was forced to the sidelines after she dislocated her shoulder during her teams 41-31 loss to Colts Divas last week.

Jaz Pringle will return from injury to the Hawks midcourt this week in the absence of Julie Brydon and Tia Konui.

"She (Jaz) will do really well tonight, she is a smart centre-court player and should combine well with Renee Spence in the shooting circle," Hawks coach Barb Ahmat said.

"The girls are excited to show what they are capable of, but that doesn't mean there aren't any nerves."

Ahmat has a lot of respect for RGS all-action goal attack Marissa Buchanan but was confident Spence's similar style of play would help the Hawks to the win.

"Hawks will have a tough game against Magic, especially being a few players down, but I'm confident the girls can slow down their feeding in to the circle," Ahmat said.

"Buchanan has high accuracy so it's important we keep stay tight on her."

Ahmat praised her sides versatility, with a similar line-up carrying through the first three weeks of the Rockhampton Leagues Club Senior A fixtures.

Defender Carmen Hope impressed in her opening rounds, making the step up from A-res this year.

"Carmen and Kelsey Hitchman have been working really well together in defence," Ahmat said.

"We are hoping we can gather ourselves and remain competitive."

The 2015 season saw the Bluebirds club enter two A-grade teams - Eagles and Hawks.

"Both teams are well positioned with a mix of A-grade, A-res and Junior-A developing players," Ahmat said.

"We are very pleased with how both teams have been going and their score margins against Colts show just how evenly matched they are."
