Hayley loses fight for her life

BRAVE Goodna six-year-old Hayley Ponting has lost her battle with cancer, passing away on Tuesday night with her family by her side.

Hayley was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system, in 2010 before undergoing a heavy schedule of treatment in an attempt to beat the disease.

The bubbly little girl, whose story captured the hearts of Queensland Times readers on November 9, had shown signs of recovery late last year before doctors discovered new cancer growths in late November.

Unfortunately the new diagnosis showed the disease was untreatable, and the Ponting family chose to enjoy the few remaining months at home with their little girl.

Hayley celebrated her sixth birthday last week and was able to spend a day with her family at a Gold Coast theme park.

A fundraising dinner planned for early February will go ahead as friends of the Ponting family try to help them deal with the emotional and financial stress that accompanied Hayley's illness.

Hayley leaves behind her dad Fred, mum Alison, sister Eilish and younger brother Nathan.
