Head on collision near Middlemount

12.45pm: POLICE are investigating a head on collision that occurred 47km south of Middlemount this morning.

The collision between two utilities on Fitzroy Development Road at around 6am this morning left one man in his forties entrapped within his vehicle.

Another man in his early 30's was the sole occupant of the other vehicle in the accident, but managed to escape from his vehicle following the accident. 

Both men are currently being treated for their injuries at the Mackay Base Hospital 

The road was entirely blocked in both directions, but reopened at 11am.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.

9.45am:  A 47-YEAR-OLD man has been airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital following a head on collision 47km south of Middlemount. 

The man had been trapped in his vehicle at the legs following the accident on Fitzroy Development Road early this morning, but was freed was from his vehicle by the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service at approximately 9am. 

The man is currently being treat at the Mackay hospital for serious injuries to his legs and chest.  

Another man in his early 30's was the sole occupant of the other vehicle in the accident, but managed to escape from his vehicle following the accident. 

He was also airlifted to the Mackay Base Hospital and is currently being treated for minor injuries. 

Two Queensland Fire and Rescue units remain on the scene, clearing the crash site from debris and obstructions on the road. 

Queensland Police are advising motorists that the Fitzroy Development Road is completely blocked and they will face delays when travelling on this road this morning. 

8.45 am: A HEAD on collision on the Fitzroy Development Road, south of Middlemount resulted in the entrapment of one passenger this morning. 

A Queensland Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said they had been notified of accident at 6:05am and had deployed two units to site.

A number of Queensland Ambulance units are also at the site as well as the RACQ  Rescue Helicopter Service.
