Health blueprint given thumbs up by Rockhampton surgeon
PROMINENT Rockhampton surgeon Dr Kim Bulwinkel felt "hopeful" yesterday after Queensland Health Minister Lawrence Springborg delivered a health blueprint for the state.
"There's no doubt Mr Springborg is the man in charge of the ship," Dr Bulwinkel said.
"It will take a few years but things are going to get better for Queensland Health."
Dr Bulwinkel wasn't the only one to welcome the blueprint.
AMA Queensland president Dr Alex Markwell said that on the surface the document looked like a positive step for Queenslanders, but the detail would have to be studied closely.
"The transparency and accountability around improved reporting is a big tick but the challenge will be to ensure that we are reporting on the right things so Queenslanders can get a true reflection of our health system," he said.
"We also support the move to expand partnerships with both the private and not for profit sectors but we must ensure strict accountability is maintained."
Dr Bulwinkel also supported Mr Springborg's recognition of the importance of all agencies working in the same direction.
He praised the Health Minister's commitment to tackling the payroll debacle and also to rural health and keeping remote hospitals open.
However, Dr Bulwinkel said in Mr Springborg's address he made no reference to regional Queensland.
