Healthy start for staff makes happier workplace - motto

TANYA Wright's motto in life has always been the better we feel, the better life is.

And that's exactly what's been applied to her workplace after a health and wellbeing program was launched last week at Rockhampton's, The Capricornian.

With activities like boot camps and frequent morning tea's with fruit kebabs, these small things are making a big difference to staff members.

Running in conjunction with Queensland Department of Health and Transport and Main Roads, training coordinator Tanya said their aim was to improve the health, wellbeing and productivity of their staff.

"I've always been interested in being healthy and I've always thought the better we feel, the better life is," Tanya said.

"We've started going to boot camps for about 12 months now and you can definitely see the difference in staff, if they're having a bit of a down day it wakes you up and makes you feel better."

Tanya said one challenge was to make sure staff had their two serves of fruit and vegetables.

"We just want to make people aware of what they are currently doing with their health," she said.

Tanya said the program, in place until June next year, included enhanced employee productivity and reduced sick days, physical activity in the workplace and more.

Tanya said she would love to see other business get on board as part of the program and improve the health of staff.
