Heatwave colours to push climate change message on weekend
ROCKHAMPTON and Yeppoon residents will turn up the heat on climate action on Sunday for National Day of Climate Change.
The Rockhampton event will take place in Central Park at the Rainbow Fountain at 11am and at the Yeppoon Beachfront from 10am.
"We are encouraging people to wear red and orange (heatwave colours) and join the discussion on the need for stronger action on climate change," local organiser David McRae said.
"We're expecting plenty of locals to come along - we know there are lots of people in Australia who want real action on climate, and fast."
"Thousands of others will be meeting at the same time, with major rallies in all the capital cities plus local regional events taking place in over 60 locations."
"With gatherings in more places than ever before, this record-breaking day of action will send the new government a powerful signal that we won't stand for going backwards on climate action," National Director of GetUp, Sam Mclean says.
"Australians across the nation are turning up the heat, calling on the government to aim higher on climate."
