Help at hand thanks to Lend-A-Hand day
HELPING those who can't help themselves is the purpose of tomorrow's Livingstone Lend-A-Hand day.
In the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Marcia, Livingstone Shire Council has partnered with Volunteering Queensland to encourage residents to help out between 7am and 2pm.
Mayor Bill Ludwig said while the council recognised the majority of residents had their clean-up under way, there were some residents who might, without the community's help, really struggle to manage on their own.
"These residents may be disadvantaged or have no access to friends or family to help," Cr Ludwig said.
"While there is already a list of homes needing assistance, if you know people who cannot clear vegetation from their property for physical or medical reasons, please have them contact the council's community development officer on 0427 813 957 between 9am and 3pm."
Volunteer activities may be physically demanding and involve tree trimming and clearing bulky tree debris.
While all volunteers are welcome, the council is looking for as many able-bodied volunteers as possible for those tough tasks.
All volunteers are asked to wear sun-smart clothing, preferably long-sleeved shirts and pants, sturdy enclosed footwear, hat, protective eyewear, and bring a supply of sunscreen, insect repellent and bottles of water.
Anyone interested can pre-register at www.emer- gencyvolunteering.
Those without internet access can call 07 3002 7600 to register by noon today.
