Rockhampton's Heritage Hotel set for massive makeover
IT won't be long until you can grab a beer at The Heritage Hotel again.
New owner Wayne Riddell is getting straight into renovations of the heritage-listed property, after buying it for $1.4 million in an auction in November last year.
Wayne has big plans for the Quay St building, including establishing a pub-style restaurant on the ground floor along with a renovated bar.
Wayne, who owns several establishments in the CBD, is hoping to have the ground floor opened by June, but won't open the second and third floors to the public straight away.
"In this economy it'll be tough but we are confident of this building and we want to get it back to its original condition to be proud of it again," Wayne said.
"We'll open up the floors as the market picks up.
"There are not enough people coming out so there's no sense in opening three floors at this time."
Wayne is hoping to hold functions on the second floor and is renovating the hotel rooms on the third floor to eventually become budget accommodation.
"We don't want to rob from (other establishments) in town, we want to offer a different option," Wayne said.
"I love this part of town... we're hoping it will bring out a new demographic of people who haven't been out in a while," Wayne said.
